Camerai- an Israeli based tech-startup is known for developing numbers of camera related technologies including computer vision and deep learning.
Report says Apple secretly purchased the startup around 18 months ago. Apple has made a deal in exchange for 10 millions of dollars with Camerai. Camerai has brought up near about 5 million dollars ( around $2.5 million by 2017 and rest in 2018 reportedly ) along with it’s investors- SKO fund and Atooro fund.
By the time of this news many of the human resources from Camerai joined Apple’s team for computer vision in Israel-report claims.
The news was reported by an Israeli newspaper calcalist earlier this day but Apple has not officially confirmed the same.
Camerai, earlier known as Tipit- founded in 2014 by Aaron Wetzler, Erez Tal, Jonathan Rimon, and Moty Kosharovsky uses AI enabled cameras to make a better understanding of scenes and build AR graphics to interface with real-time technologies.
Camerai platform allows software developers and applications to build augmented reality and graphics that processes image without codes and technical knowledge.
Apple is well known for acquiring small startups and adding them up to its giant venture. This is not the first time Apple has acquired an Israel based company. Back in 2011, Apple purchased Anovit Herzliya (flash memory), latter in 2013 with Primesense (structured light 3D scanner technology), in 2015 LinX imaging (camera) and Realface (facial recognition) – some of the Isareli acquisitions.
If the claimed reports are true then Apple has acquired Camerai in 2019 for cross platform AR graphics application.
Even in 2019, at a Berkshire Hathaway conference Tim Cook- CEO, Apple made an announcement that the company has obtained 25 companies only in that year. Though he has not disclosed any further details, but chances are high that Camerai was one of them.
Reports even claim that Apple has acquired 20+ startups only in 2019. So, there is high chance Camerai is also a part of it now. As Apple is a brand that loves to befriend startups and small businesses, it has purchased numerous companies in the past – there will be no surprise if the secret deal comes true someday.
