Instagram is currently experimenting with how the stories roll out and is adding a new design to it. With this new design, the story will not be seen in a format of tile, rather in a carousel. To test out how the new design is going to be interpreted, a selected amount of users have already been given access to it.
In the present format of viewing stories, one has to wait for a few seconds to see next story or tap to move onto the next one. However, with the new design that is being experimented right now, this new feature allows the users to click through the next stories but also keep an eye on the stories queue. So it won’t take up the whole space. Even though the new design will make the stories appear less of a tile and more like a carousel, the UI will be having the same navigation keys to be able to control the stories on your single tap.
The feature is said to be more visually appealing and easier for the desktop users. Right now, only few selected users are being able to access this feature early on from December 2020, but how many, that is unknown. However, when this new feature will be available for the users worldwide, we still do know know about that.
