Google’s Year In Search To Get A Twist From Augmented Reality

Google rolled out its ‘Year in Search’, but this year with a twist. It brought the video in the form of Snapchat Augmented Reality portal lens. The AR lens allows Snapchatters to immerse themselves in the Year in Search video, thus giving them a way to transport to the biggest stories of 2020. The video uses original tracks from the Chicago Children’s Choir, The Matt Jones (Re Collective) Orchestra, Chance the Rapper, Cynthia Erivo, and Peter CottonTale.

Users can engage with the biggest moments of 2020 with augmented reality

Opening the Snapchat in world view prompts users to turn the camera forward. The technology then surrounds them in 360 degrees with images in AR. Users can also check insights and statistics about every image by tapping on it. Doing so will also show related videos and images from Google’s report. Upon viewing any individual image, it turns to full color from grey. This will help users know the images they have already viewed.

According to Google, the company partnered with Snapchat for this campaign in order to allow individuals to interact with the major events of 2020 in a unique way. The lens will be available only to a few Snapchatters in the US through the Snapcode or Lens Corousel. Google will also run the 2020 video as Snapchat ads for the first time ever.
